You will fail…

Filed under: Niches, WAHM — Kristine - A WAHM @ 2:01 am

I’m not over-hyping anything here.

If you are serious about creating a business online, you need to do a few things very well. One of them is to know where your strengths lie.

You’ve hopefully got an idea in mind as to what kind of online business you’d like to create. Are you just following the group or is it something you really love to do?

Even if it is something you love to do, do you consider it a strength? What have people told you your strengths are?

  • Listening?
  • Reading?
  • Writing?
  • Knitting?
  • Giving Advice?
  • Drawing?

Really think about this. A business is only as good as the effort you put into it and your best efforts will fail if you don’t love what you do.

Outsource!

Filed under: Marketing, Traffic, WAHM — Kristine - A WAHM @ 11:38 am

As much as we always feel responsible for absolutely everything (being WAHM’s that is generally our misguided idea about ourselves) there does come a time when we need help advertising our businesses.

There really is just not enough time in a day (especially if you have little ones running around) to do all of the advertising we need to truly build a successful business.  So what do you do?

You hire someone.

Do you know of someone in your neighborhood who would be interested in posting your links on other websites or who would like to write for your website?

Oftentimes, they’ll do this for a nominal fee – or try www.elance.com.  Elance is a listing of freelancers who are more than happy to do this work for you.  And they don’t charge a lot either.

Splash Pages…

Filed under: Traffic, WAHM, Website Design — Kristine - A WAHM @ 11:21 am

I received an email the other day asking if the use of splash pages was appropriate.

Absolutely not and I’ll tell you why. Well, first of all I’ll tell you what they are if you aren’t sure.

Many people mistake opt-in name squeeze pages as being the same as splash pages. They are not one-in-the-same. A splash page is a page that shows you an image or has a little flash presentation on the screen that you must watch before you enter the site.

You know these pages, these are the ones that have the “enter site here” or something to that effect on the page either during or after the flash presentation.

These are not recommended at all! Not only does this make your visitor have to click twice just to get into your site and get to the content they need, the search engines dislike them as well. So with a splash page, you have effectively turned off both the search engines and your visitors.

Not a good start to your business.

All the best,
Kristine

Demystifying Google’s AdWords Program

Filed under: Marketing, WAHM, keywords — Kristine - A WAHM @ 12:18 pm

I received a question the other day as to how to advertise on Google’s AdWords. The person wanted to know how to get AdWords to work. They weren’t sure what kind of amount to spend per keyword or even what kind of keywords to use.

The fact is you simply just can’t jump into AdWords and start advertising without knowing:

A) What your good keywords are;

B) What words you need to avoid;

C) What amount you are willing to spend each day;

D) What types of ads are working;

E) and what you are going to test

There are actually quite a few things to consider before running your AdWords advertising campaign. We’ll cover these on the Be A WAHM site within the next few months but for now just know that it is important that you know exactly what your customers are searching for. These keywords will be the backbone for your campaign and without them and knowing what to exclude, you will fall into the trap that many first time (and even not-so-first-time) advertisers do and that is end up spending a lot of money and have little or nothing to show for it.

Keep an eye out on our site for this information!

All the best,
Kristine
